Beware of property scams

Rental and sale scams are common. Do not transfer money before you have viewed the property and verified the agent.

• • Verify the agent or seller through their official agency website or estate office before sending anything.
• • Never pay a deposit on a property you have not physically viewed.
• • Watch out for "owner overseas" listings asking for upfront fees.
• • Photos copied from other listings or stock images are a giveaway — reverse image search if unsure.
• • Ask for a signed lease or sale agreement before any payment.
